18. Entry Eighteen (The Gray Orb 1)

(Game Date: July 10th, 2016)

The planeswalkers had finally completed their unfinished business in Sigil, and were ready to pursue the Black Lotus to Torch, as their lead from the Boyle Party had suggested. Enial had already found a portal, so after acquiring the key, the group headed through.

When they arrived, they found more than they had expected. Torch was in flames, cannon-fire from the upper slopes raining down on the lower. After meeting a woman named Jennifer Mosely, a local gang member, amidst the burning rubble they discovered that the attack had come from the Gray Orb, the gang ruling the upper slopes of one of Torch's three volcanoes. The Gray Orb had inexplicably raided the other gangs in the dead of night, kidnapping dozens of peasants and merchants, using the cannons to cover their escape before sealing themselves off behind the walls of their territory.

Knowing from previous investigation that the Gray Orb were minions of the Black Lotus, the group followed Mosely down to the bottom of the slope to attend a moot between the gangs raided by the Gray Orb, hoping to learn more about the situation. Unfortunately, their path was blocked by a hostile Torch gang. After an abortive attempt to negotiate their way through, the planeswalkers were forced into a battle, routing the thugs and clearing their path to the bottom of the slope.

Once there, the group learned more about the three gangs raided by the Gray Orb; the Brotherhood Janko, the Fire Kings, and the Kindred of Yoj. Giovanni, leader of the Brotherhood Janko, tried to convince the other two gangs to join forces and launch a counterattack against the Gray Orb. But the meeting quickly devolved into bickering, and almost into violence, before a well timed illusion by the Bishop defused the situation.

After the meeting, the planeswalkers were introduced to Giovanni by Mosely. He thanked them for helping his agent escape the upper slopes and paid them a generous amount of coin, offering more if they'd assist him in delivering a message to the Badurth, a local information broker and owner of a place called the Festhall of Falling Coins. Since the group had already intended to visit the Festhall, they readily accepted his offer.
