Daniel, Rogue Astral Deva
The Party first met Daniel after delivering a letter to him from Enial, in Ysgard at the Hall of the Valiant. At that time he did not speak to the party, instead vanishing angrily after reading the letter (21). They later found reference to him in some documents they had regarding the Shadow Lord, discussing his battle brother Michael slaying Choronzon, and the resulting disillusionment of Daniel and other Devas of Heronious. Helga and the Bishop later met Daniel at one of Enial's hideouts, where he told his own version of the story:
Millenia ago, Choronzon, a Yugoloth, gained a huge amount of power very quickly and mysteriously. For some reason, the Good Deities did nothing to stop his rise. The Astral Deva Michael begged Heronious to let him fight against Choronzon. Heronious finally agreed, but told him to go alone and fight the Demon by himself. Michael was loyal, so did as his Lord commanded. However, his battle brother Casiel overheard them talking, and followed Michael. He watch as Michael and Choronzon had an epic battle that leveled mountains and destroyed huge areas of land. Finally Choronzon was defeated, but Michael also died from wounds that he received from the battle. Casiel told what he had seen and heard to his fellow battle brothers. Daniel, disillusioned by the news, went Rogue and left the service of Heronious for Ysgard. The whereabouts of Casial are currently unknown, but might be uncovered by tracking down the lock to the mysterious key that the Party found, which they know lies in the Harmonica in Pandemonium.
